Data Acquisition Systems

Data represents the basis of research and other processes that involve collection of useful information. Data retrieval, organizing and analysis have been part of the world for many years. It is due to data accrued over the years that enabled us to land our flag on the moon. So, why is data necessary in the modern day context? If you question the various research scientists, doctors, engineers, and even businessmen, you will find one thing in ordinary, and that is the accumulation of valuable data. The success of any project lies in testing different methodologies, acquiring data, and then analyzing them to transform into a touch meaningful. Even from the businessman’s perspective, client satisfaction data and client history can provide him with some valuable information on how the market is reacting to his products and services, and can ultimately choose the success or failure of hisher enterprise. In life sciences and research projects, data acquisition plays a major role. Often the la…

Help For a Crashed Hard Drive – Your Data Recovery Options

Data recovery is a lifesaving key for anyone who has had to deal with hard disk crashes. As anyone who has been through a situation like that knows, hard drive crashes are traumatic moments, mainly when the data stored in that hard disk are valuable and irreplaceable.

Such events can be very frustrating, and you may even end up taking out your frustration on anyone. Thankfully, hard disk recovery is possible, with or without the help of an expert. You have a couple of options to get these done and it will certainly help you to know what these options are.

First Option: Data Recovery Software

Recovery software is an option you can go for if your hard disk is still readable and only parts of it cannot be accessed. You can buy them or download them for free from reputable resource websites.

But, the software will work only if the conundrum is a mild one and your hard drive is still being recognized by the computer. It is also possible for the conundrum to become of poorer quality after you have run the software. You stand the risk of losing all your data entirely.

Second Option: Data Recovery Services

If the data you lost is too valuable for you to just rely on software to get it back, you should turn to hard drive recovery experts to do the job for you. This is the better option, mainly when the hard drive is completely inaccessible and you cannot determine what the conundrum is.

Recovery engineers are supposed to know the ins and outs of a hard disk. Their methods of determining what caused the crash and how to get your data back are very precise. The amount of work ordinarily required to perform data recovery is often extensive and time-consuming, but you can expect to get at least some of your data back when you entrust your crashed hard drive to a data recovery engineer.

You should always deal with a hard drive recovery expert who is willing to go to your place to look at your computer. Also, do not fall for the tricks of a technician who will drown you with jargon and technical parlance without bothering to give reasons for what they mean. Data recovery services can be expensive, but it does not give technicians an excuse not to give reasons for just why their services are costly. Better yet, make a cost comparison of the hard drive recovery services available to you before you hire one to work on your hard drive.

RecoverMyPc Inc. is one such company that can give you the data recovery service that you need.

Data Recovery For NAND and NOR Flash Memory

NAND or NOR Flash Memory: Flash memory is a non-precarious data storing memory wafer that involves electrically erasing and reprogramming technology. Being non-precarious these chips are capable of storing data even in the absence of power and are renowned for quick reading and better kinetic shock resisting qualities. NAND devices are accessed serially, using the same eight pins to transmit control, addressing and data. NAND flash was introduced by Toshiba in 1989.

Although NAND and NOR memory chips function differently they are still widely being used in various electronic devices where data storing, erasing and reprogramming are essential. Both invented by DR. Fujio Masuoka in his work place Toshiba, the main goal was set to outdate the ancient storage devices that functions under magnetic energy like: hard disks and cassette tapes by reducing the cost per bit and increasing maximum chip capacity.

Hence, NAND flash is widely used in MP3 players, USB drives and digital cameras where higher storage capacity is crucial. But, some devices like pocket PC’s can be found using both types of flash memory at the same time. These PC’s typically use NAND for memory storage and NOR to boot the in commission system.

Flawed Memory Drives and Data Recovery:

Data recovery is a highly specialized science which is equally valid for rescuing data from both NAND and NOR flash. Although, NOR is rarely used and is quite expensive, NAND is preferred extensively for mass storage and a huge godsend for thin and smaller devices.

The probability of data loss is elevated when terrible memory storage is used: unbranded USB drives, unbranded NAND wafer devices, etc. These unbranded memory devices & chips are often noticed in spontaneous reboots leading to program failure. A malfunctioning RAM is often noticed to write right data in an incorrect location of the drive which eventually makes a data malfunction and data loss. Furthermore, using flawed memory can also cause degradation of your hard drives logical capability and can finally ruin your device, the most extreme: an unbootable system or device.

Data recovery or NAND data recovery can lessen your loss and protect your machine from any incurable situation; we highly suggest avoiding the buy of unbranded USB drives, SD cards, USB sticks, CompactFlash cards, and any other no-name devices for storing your crucial data. NAND recovery is possible but very complicated.

First Aid Before Data Recovery:

Data loss is a ordinary conundrum that we often face due to virus attacks in our USB drives or when our computers get physically or logically over used. To fix these data degradation problems data recovery is only one key that can rescue you and your data from the nightmare of any stable loss. But, experts believe that data loss often becomes a complicated task when a user ignores the safety measures that help to avoid further data losses. Thus, in case of data loss some safety measures should be applied.

  • When data loss is acknowledged, further procedures to save the data should not be made. This may lead to much more serious data loss.
  • It’s better to contact experts for help and other remedy measures.
  • Using software like: scandisk should be completely avoided.
  • Avoid no-name or unbranded devices.
  • eBay sellers are not always honest eProvided ™ has learned many times where customers data is stored on fake NAND wafers, your buy of a 16GB SD card may yield a soon to be hurt 1GB NAND wafer inside.

Data Recovery for Hard Drives & NAND Storage:

Data recovery processes hug various techniques with latest technologies. At first, experts determine the flaw on the device and classify them into Tier 1 and Tier 2. If your device cascade into Tier 1 this earnings your device is suffering from a logically hurt component and data recovery costs are normally cheaper as compared to Tier 2. But, if your device has Tier 2 flaw than your device is physically injured and may have many internal hurt circuits which need circuit and recovery experts; the process will normally be more costly.

After determining tier 1 or tier 2 an image of device is saved and these images are relocated to a separate server to avoid any accidental loss. Then the original copy of the image is transported to a lab where first point data recovery is performed using various utilities which may include repairing faults in the device, dumping directly from NAND wafers, repairing circuits, crystals etc. Other various attempts are also made which includes testing and recovering from the logical hurt on the device.

If the first point recovery fails then the task is considered to be severe and second point recovery is adept which includes high level techniques and experts with professional knowledge over critical uses of software and hexadecimal formulas. These software utilities are used to re-build the drive and manipulate other drive errors.

In case of physical faults like: motor replacements, repairing heads or cleaning scratches different cleaning liquids and other spare parts are available according to the size and code. After each physical and logical recovery attempt the rescued data is hackneyed to an additional storage device like: CD/DVD’s, flash drives, and hard drives.

Fixing “Tablespace Error” Post power failure

A tablespace in MySQL database is a storage destination where the data related to database objects (tables, indexes, etc.) is kept. A MySQL database consists of at least one tablespace, which can also be increased if required. While these tablespaces increase the performance of the database, corruption in these logical storage units can result in unmountability of database, further leading to inaccessibility of database records. One of the main reasons for the corruption of a tablespace is improper shutdown of MySQL Server due to power failure. In most of these situations, you receive an error message. For perfect accessibility of database records and to surpass the error message, an ideal way is to restore the data from an updated backup. But, the possibilities of backup not being able to restore the desired content always persists. In such cases, you will need use an advanced MySQL Repair tool.

Consider a practical scenario, where your running MySQL server experiences a power failure. The next time you attempt to mount your database, you receive the not more than error message:

“InnoDB: If you get repeated assertion failures or crashes, even
InnoDB: immediately after the mysqld startup, there may be
InnoDB: corruption in the InnoDB tablespace.”

After the above error message pops up, the database becomes unmountable. This, further results in inaccessibility of all the records. In addition, the above error message appears each time you try to mount your MySQL database.

Cause:

As discussed in the error message, the InnoDB database tablespaces are corrupt due to improper server shutdown.

Resolution:

To resolve the above tablespace error message and to access the database, you will need to use follow the not more than steps:

Restart MySQL using innodb_force_recovery = 4 option.
Restart MySQL using innodb_force_recovery = 6 option.
Run ‘reiserfsck’ to fix corrupt file system.

But, if the above resolutions fail to resolve the above error message, then you will need to use an effective MySQL Repair tool to repair the database. Such Repair MySQL Database utilities can be downloaded from the Internet and used even by a novice user.

Three ways to Repair MyISAM tables

Corruption in MyISAM tables is a nightmare for nearly each Database Administrator (DBA). These tables are one of the most vital components to save personal and professional data, and corruption of these tables primarily result into inaccessibility of all that data. In such cases, a valid database backup allows you to restore the data and access the table records. While the backup file is mostly saved on a different storage media, the possibilities of its corruption still exist. In such cases, you will need to perform Repair MySQL Database.

Not more than are the few error messages that enable you to identify that your MyISAM table (employee) is corrupt:

“employee.frm is locked against change”
Or
“Can’t find file employee.MYI (Errcode: nnn)”
Or
“Got error employee from table handler”

The data stored in the employee table becomes inaccessible after the above error message pops up. In addition, you receive any of the above error message each time you attempt to access the table.

Cause:

Few main reasons for the employee table corruption are improper MySQL Server shutdown, virus infection, file system hurt, and human errors.

Resolution:

To resolve the above error messages and access the employee table records, you will need to follow the not more than measures:

You can use an in-built tool “myisamchk” to check and repair the employee table. The command-line tool scans the database components, identifies the exact cause of corruption, and repair the tables.

You can use various SQL commands to repair the employee table. These commands are CHECK TABLE, REPAIR TABLE, and OPTIMIZE TABLE.

The probabilities of employee table not being repaired by any of the above steps is very less, but still exists. Such cases suggest itself when the table is terribly corrupted. To repair the table in such situations, you will need to use an advanced third-party Repair MySQL tool.

These MySQL Repair tools provide perfect repair of MyISAM tables by repairing them using advanced repairing algorithms. Such tools are completely read-only in nature and perform repair without modifying the original file. Moreover, these tools are easily understandable without any prior technical knowledge.

MySQL Database Table corrupt after running a Procedure

A procedure is a group of specific set of actions and operations to perform a particular task. These actions consist of various queries that fetch data from various tables connected to a database. While making and running a procedure makes your work simple, it can also result into corruption of a database table. This occurs when either of the queries in the procedure is fetching records from two tables, one of which is corrupted due to virus infection. In such situations, an ideal way is to delete the virus infected database table and restore the table from an virus-free and latest database backup. But, if in case the database backup is unable to restore the required table or the backup is corrupted/hurt, then you will need to use a third-party MySQL Repair application to repair the corrupt table.

Picture a scenario, where you have made a not more than script to perform certain operation:

Make Procedure
Run Procedure
Drop Procedure

But, after the above script runs, you find that one of your table always gets corrupted. Furthermore, the records stored on that table become inaccessible after it gets hurt.

Cause:

The table gets corrupted if there is query that relates it with another table, which is virus-infected. To prevent the table from being corrupted, you should always scan your database components with an up-to-date anti-virus software.

Resolution:

To resolve the above error message and to repair the table, you will need to run the “myisamchk” command. While the above command repair the table in most cases, it fails to repair the tables in case of severe corruption. For repairing such tables, you will need to use an advanced Repair MySQL Database application.

Easily downloaded from the Internet, these MySQL Repair applications can repair MYSQL database tables, regardless of their extent of corruption. These tools are primarily incorporated with an interactive user-documentation so that even a novice user can perform the repair task. Such repair utilities use high-end scanning methods to repair the corrupt table and also allow you to restore the repaired table on your desired location.

How to Back Up Data

If you are like me, then you spend a lot of time on the computer. Whether the time you spend on the PC (or Mac) is for business or pleasure, then you are part of the IT revolution. Data is the way that we make all the details we have been effective on and this data is very vital to save as all our work will be lost without it.

In a normal week, I may send 100 emails and receive just as many, I would be lost without my emails and I reckon I have over 1000 in my inbox! I know that Outlook will of course save all my emails for me, and also back them up when it requests to do so, but this is not the end of the tale. If I was to backup my Outlook files and save them onto my hard disk, then all I have is one copy. If my hard disk was to fail, then all my emails and my backup of my emails have gone! So if Outlook wants to make a backup, I would suggest making 2 more copies of this backup. The first copy I would suggest storing on a DVD, CD or memory stab, and the second copy would be best kept in an online storage facility.

Online storage is fantastic if, like me, you are on the road a lot. I have several ways of keeping my data backed up, but the main way I normally access the data is on the internet. At the moment, I am sat in a café away from home, and I know for a fact that all the vital data I need is available in a few keystrokes!

I recommend using online storage – with password protected files – as an extremely useful alternative to a memory stab or DVD. At least an online storage method is not going to get scratched or lost as a DVD or memory stab can be.
